LESSON NO 1

HISTORY FOR FORM 4B

WEEK BEGINNING 23RD TO 27TH MARCH 2020

DERRICK

Sudject: History

Topic: AFRICA NATIONALISM

Competence: student should be able to explain the internal and external reasons for Nationalism

Introduction:

This was the anty colonial movement carry out by African nationalist against European colonial rule in other to achieve political, economic and social freedom such as nationalist were Nnadi Azikiwe of Nigeria, Kwame Nkrumah  from Ghana, Jomo Kenyatta from Kenya. Nationalism started early 1900 and gain grounds after the second world war in 1945 by 1918 almost all of Africa has became Independent except Nnamdi Azikiwe who get independed in 1919.

REASONS FOR THE RISE OF AFRICA NATIONALISM

A) internal Course.

The siesure of African land to open plantation and for settlement, pushed the Africans to fight in oder to recover the land example Kenya.

The disrespect of African culture and traditional institutions also led to African resistance.

The emergence of educated elites also played a vital role in the fight of independent. These elite educated the masses on the ills or evil of colonialism.

European policy such as force labour, indigenat, prestation annoyed the Africans who then fought for thier freedom from such practices

The existence of ex-soldiers whose fought for the 2ww. They saw the weakness of European and realize that they were more stronger thus no reason for then to be continued under been colonial role.

Another encourages factored was the coming of missionary and thier preaching of equality before God. They also upon school which help educ the Africans.

2ww psychological booster to Africans assist wiped away the myth Africans had of European superiority.

The low wages played by European for work done by African and not African involvement for import and export trade also pushed to fight for Independence.

B) EXTERNAL FACTORS

The Atlantic charter of 1971made by presidency Rosovelt of America and British prime minister Churchhill Winston. Which called for sale role for economical people raised home for African.

The pan Africa association such as the west African student union(wasu) pressurise colonial master to grant Independed to Africa. They also promised military action European still role African by force.

The rise of USA AND USSR are supreme power after the second war world who constantly contain colonial rule and encourage African independent to fight Nationalism.

LESSON NO 2

BIOLOGY FOR FORM 4A

WEEK BEGINNING 23RD TO 27TH MARCH 2020

DONGMO DERRICK

Summary lesson notes for week :23rd of March to the 27th of March 2020.
CLASS: F4 A and B
SUBJECT: BIOLOGY
Chapter :5
Date: 23rd March 2020
Subject instructor: Dongmo N.C. Derrick •
TOPIC:  MOVEMENT AND SUPPORT
• COMPETENCE:   By the end of this lesson, students should be able to; Define movement and explain the different mechanisms through which movement and support is brought about in Plants and Animals.

INTRODUCTION  Movement is the process by which an organism or part of that organism changes it’s position in space and time. If the whole organism moves from one point to another it is called LOCOMOTION. All living organisms moves. Movement  of Organisms can be observed at the following levels:

1) Protoplasm: This is where the internal organelles of the cells move. 2) Cellular: This is where individual cell move from one place to another using structures such as Flagella and pilli. 3) Organs: The movement of organs is generally  observed in multicellular organism where individual organ can move without causing movement of the whole body e.g the root of plant growing into the soil without the plant moving from one place to another. 4) Organism: This is where the whole organism can move from one place to another and this is called Locomotion.

MOVEMENT IN PLANTS   Plants are non-motile but they carryout a degree of movement known as Growth Movement. There are 3 types of plant movement: • Tropism ( Tropic movement) • Tactism ( Tactic movement) • Nastism ( Nastic movement) A) Tropism: This is the growth movement of a plant in response to a unit directional stimulus. The movement is positive when it is in the direction of the stimulus and negative when it’s away from the direction of the stimulus.               Types of Tropism 1) Phototropism:  This is the movement of plant parts in response to unit directional light. In phototropism the stimulus is Light. Plant shoot are generally  positively phototropic because they grow towards the source of light while plant roots are Neutral to light.  Experiment to show that plant shoot are positively phototropic.
Aim: To show that plant shoot are positively phototropic.  Requirements: 2 potted plants, 2 dark cupboard, a source of light. Procedure: 2 potted plants are watered and put in 2 separate dark cupboard, one of the cupboard have a slit through which light can pass or enter. The 2 setup are labelled A and B, and are allowed for 2days. Observation: After 2days it is observed that the plant in set up B bends in the direction of the slit, while the plant in set up A continues to grow vertically upward. Conclusion: From the above observation it can be concluded that plant shoot are positively phototropic. 2) Chemotropism: This is the growth movement  in Plants or plant in response to a chemical stimulus. An example is the growth of the pollen tube down the style of the flower after pollination. This is known as positive chemotropism. Plant roots grow towards useful minerals and water thereby displaying positive chemotropism but grow away from harmful acid and display negative chemotropism. 3) Hydrotropism: This is the growth movement  of plant part in response to moisture or water. Plant roots grow towards water and are said to be positively hydrotropic. 4) Geotropism: This is the growth movement  of plants in response to gravity. Gravity is the force exerted by the center of the earth to any object found in the atmosphere. Plant shoot are negatively geotropic while plant roots are positively  geotropic.

LESSON NO 3

CHEMISTRY FOR FORM 4 SCE,
WEEK BEGINNING 23RD TO 27TH MARCH 2020
NAYAH

Form four chemistry note

Properties of calcium

  1. physical properties
  • Its has a melting point if 851 degree Celsius
  • Its is silvery white metal
  • Its denser than water
  • Calcium is a good conductor of heat and electricity
  1. chemical properties
  • Calcium evolves hydrogen slowly from cold water and very fast from hot water forming calcium hydroxides solution
  • Calcium combine with most non metal when heated
  • It tarnishes in air to form a coat of it’s oxide
  • Calcium burns in air with a brick -red flame to form a mixture of its oxide and nitrides (calcium ash)
  • Calcium reacts vigorously with dilute mineral acid displacing hydrogen gas

Some Compounds of calcium

  1. calcium carbonates

Its occurs naturally and abundantly on the earths crust in polymorphic form like limestone ,chalk, marble and calcite

Calcium carbonates is prepared by double decomposition precipitation reaction between aqueous sodium carbonates (Na2CO3 ) and calcium chloride(CaCl2)

Na2CO3 +CaCl2______ CalCO3 +2NaCL

  • of calcium carbonate
  1. physical properties
  • Its insoluble in water that does not contain carbondioxides
  • It’s a white solids

B.Chemical properties

  • Its evolves carbondioxides when heated with dilute mineral acids

CaCO3 +2HClCaCl2 +H2O CO2

  • Its dissolved in water containing  CO2  to form the soluble Ca(HCO3)2.And the Ca(HCO3)2 causes temporary hardness of water
  • When CaCO3 is heated to about 1000degree Celsius ,it decomposed producing Calcium oxides and CO2
