AfO-A-KOM

There are three famous statues in the palace of the fon of kom, these secret statue of a man Mbang and his two wives are called the afo-A-kom. They are carved out of Iroko wood. On 1966, Mbang was stolen from the Kom  palace in Laikom. Mbang was sold to an American art dealer. The dealer displayed Mbang in the Furman gallery in New York. The Kom people were very sad to loose such important statues. They searched and searched for it. They offered sacrifices to the gods asking them to returned Mbang to its rightful owners.

In 1973, the government of Cameroon was informed of the location of the statue. They asked for the statue to be returned to them, the gallery owner wanted to make money out of Mbang. So instead of returning the statue, he sold it to a business man. This businessman then returned Mbang to the Kom people.
